Analogies are a great way to use a comparison to help a reader further understand the text. “The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind” by William Kamkwamba is full of analogies to help paint a vivid picture in the reader’s mind. An example is an analogy “His hands were in fists and the veins in his arms bulged like tree roots”(42). William Kamkwamba included this analogy to compare the bulging veins of the mangolomera induced field worker Phiri, to roots found on a tree. The author used this analogy in particular to express how angry Phiri had become and empathize how muscular he was in appearance was and what mood he was in. What we should take away from this is Phiri was so enraged his veins were more visible as a result of his heart pumping more
