The quest for Scotland's freedom all began when one English lord decided to kill the wife of William Wallace, who would soon realize what a terrible mistake he had made. William Wallace was both an Anglo-Saxon and Epic hero, because he shows characteristics of bravery, loyalty, generosity, friendship, and strength. Wallace was a glorified man, who had his mind set on a single quest and was able to stick to his morals and ethics.
William Wallace was an Epic hero, because of the many characteristics he showed such as his strength, desire for a quest, being ethical, and glorification. From the moment Williams dad died as a boy he gained a tremendous amount of knowledge, this knowledge would later prepare him for the rest of his life. It was not until his bride Murron was murdered for standing up for herself did he decide to fight back for their freedom and continue what his father had started many years before(Braveheart). From that day forward, he started on the greatest quest of his life, the freedom of Scotland. Wallace fought for this until his last dying breath when he was given the chance to beg for mercy, but instead chose to yell freedom(Braveheart). Once they had won their first battle, they saw what a great leader William was and they wanted him to be the king, take charge of this war(Braveheart). This would soon lead to Wallace’s growing knowledge of adversity. He had to face many challenges along the way that would put his character to the test. Wallace was able to maintain his friendships, stay loyal and stick to his ethics during his quest for freedom. He was also able to show strength, bravery and generosity, even when people began to recognize his name for all of his heroic
