In the article “The Right to Fail”, William Zinsser believes that the word “drop out” should not always be associated with a negative connotation. People who leave school or drop out are often considered failures by our “society's standards”. This makes failing almost an unspeakable act. This is a misconception that people as a whole need to fix. Failure should be accepted as a part of the growing process in order for people to find the right path. Maybe we need to learn again to cherish this right of every person to succeed on his or her terms and to fail as necessary along the way. Failure can we open new doors and even give people opportunities they never thought they would get. Zinsser argues, “Failure isn't fatal. Countless people have had a boat with it and only come out stronger as a result.” This demonstrates that failure comes with success. It only helps to make you stronger as a person which can be extremely beneficial in the long run. One should not be afraid to fail. Failing is not the be all end all. Our society has condemned failure to be fatal but that is not the case. Failure bring success and because of failure, people come out stronger. They learn from their failures and that can have a very positive effect on their lives. People really do have a right to fail but they also have a right to analyze, assess, and improve their situation. And because of that, they will succeed. Without failure, humans would learn very little. They would not develop or grow. No one can avoid mistakes, and anyone who wants to learn shouldn’t want to.
