The annual Windrixville Catch-A-Greased-Pig contest was more eventful than in past years. The semi-finals were brought to a sudden end when Misty, a greased piglet, escaped from Gary Wigum, a contestant, and ran up Joe Mt. into the old, abandoned church. Six children, Jessica Lombre, Bart Lombre, Sally Marley, Jonathan Mckield, Lilian Sombri, and Felix Wigum were sent to fetch the escaped piglet.

Fire investigators believe the little porker, once in the church, tripped and landed on a lit cigarette. Being covered in flammable grease, Misty promptly burst into flames. The pig's struggles caused the old, dry timbre to catch fire. Upon running into the building, the aforementioned children were frightened senseless and froze at the sight.

A half hour passed before the crowd noticed billowing smoke. Upon arriving at the fire, bystanders heard faint cries of the children. Then, according to Jerry Birch, two young boys ran into the flames to aid the youngsters. One bystander said she had never before seen such bravery.
