Winston Churchill is considered a great critical thinker, why? That is what we will be discussing. We will look at his life and why he is a great critical thinker- does he apply the eight standards of critical thinking? Who was Winston Churchill? He was born 11/30/1874 and died 1/24/1965. He was best known for his leadership of the United Kingdom during world war two and widely regarded as one of the great wartime leaders. To date, he is the only British prime minister to have received the Nobel Prize in Literature, and the first person to be recognized as an honorary citizen of the United States. According to, Critical Thinking - A Student’s Introduction, the standards are- Clarity, Precision, Accuracy, Relevance, Consistency, Logical Correctness, Completeness, and Fairness. The article, Churchill’s Greatest Speeches, looks at excerpts of what is considered eight of Churchill’s best speeches. From this I decided to analyze what they considered his fourth greatest speech titled We Shall Never Surrender. Churchill gave this speech at the House of Commons on 6/4/1940, “Even though large tracts of Europe and many old and famous states have fallen or may fall into the grip of the Gestapo and all the odious apparatus of Nazi rule, we shall not flag or fail.
