The Wolf of Wall Street The film The Wolf of Wall Street is full of controversial topics. Promiscuity, drugs, and greed, are just some of the issues depicted throughout the film. Although the movie is based in the late 1980s and 1990s the social and cultural issues depicted are just as prominent today. The Wolf of Wall Street is a Paramount Pictures production that was released on December 25, 2013 (The Wolf of Wall Street). It is depicted on the real life of Jordan Belfort and his job as a Wall Street broker (The Wolf of Wall Street). Jordan Belfort, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, makes a small fortune working in penny stocks and decides to move up the ladder and start his own firm “Stratton Oakmont”. Although the film portrays promiscuity, drugs, and greed as what is necessary in order to have a good time, the underlying meaning shows the disgust within these issues. “…the directorial choices indicate that Scorsese is disgusted by this story and these people and finds them grotesque,” (Rothman, L). “…we’re supposed to come away with the understanding that Jordan Belfort is more or less a bad person whose behavior should not be emulated,” (Conklin, P.)
