Does limiting half of the population to certain military jobs seem like a good idea? According to the Pew Research Center 66% of people said women should be allowed to serve in fighting units and 29% said it would make armed forces more effective. Despite what people think, women having combat jobs in the military is actually a good thing. Women make up 14% of the military and excluding half of our population from certain jobs is unacceptable. Women should be able to do certain combat jobs because genders don’t define who we are. The military excludes 25% of women from active-job duties and it prevents them from advancing in their career. Some say that having women would distract men. But adding more female troops would help stop against discrimination and harassment of female troops. Female troops shouldn’t be confined to a desk just because of the fact that they are female. Women are just as capable of doing their job in the military as men are. …show more content…
Many people are uncomfortable with the idea of women fighting and are unable to the handle the image of mothers coming home in body bags. There are also some concerns that women will interfere with group bonding. But according to the Service Women’s Action Network, women aren’t “technically” allowed to serve in combat roles, but have been doing it unofficially for a while. In conclusion, combat jobs should be open for women in the military. Its modern times, gender discrimination shouldn’t be allowed/accepted anywhere; including the military. Does it really make sense for half of our population to not be able to do combat jobs in the military? If we continue to limit women to certain jobs in the military, then the military will not continue to grow and women won’t have the chance of advancing their
