The Catcher in the Rye is a novel by JD Salinger which the main characters and the narrator create a striking feature in the opening chapter of the novel. The novel’s narrator and main character is Holden Caulfield who is a seventeen year-old high school junior who has dropped out of prep school several times. Holden struggles to make the transition into adolescent as he thinks the things that adults do are false and pointless. The story is told from a rest home as he is there recovering from a breakdown or illness. The novel is set in New York.
