justifying an Evaluation Recently the International Olympic Committee voted to remove wrestling from the 2020 Olympics onwards. Wrestling has been part of the Olympics for over 2000 years. One person showing he or she is physically and mentally tougher than his opponent is what the Olympics are all about, right? I believe the physical and mental strength and level of competitiveness is more evident in a freestyle-wrestling match than in any other Olympic sport. The tradition and history, the competitiveness and the pure brute force behind the sport of wrestling proves that it should not only stay as one of the 25 “core sports”, but if necessary, it should win a bid over the seven “non-core” sports, which include: baseball/softball, squash, wakeboarding, wushu, rock climbing, karate and roller sports that it has to compete with in order to be considered the heart and soul of the Olympic games. Why choose wrestling over baseball? Isn’t baseball Americas greatest pastime? Yes, but isn’t it also true that we see enough baseball via the MLB every season? I think it’s safe to say that the MLB holds the best baseball players from around the world. Therefore, if we want to watch the most exciting baseball, we can just watch the MLB, which has 30 teams each playing 152 games per season. Also, baseball was dropped from the Olympics in the two previous Olympics and let’s be honest, no one really missed out on much.
