An essay can have many purposes, such as an academic essay. You may be writing an essay to argue a point or to explain the steps to complete a task. If you follow a few simple steps, you will find that with practice, writing an essay can be easy to do. The first step in the process would be Prewriting. This is where you will transfer your thoughts onto paper. You will pick a topic, use your own personal experience and observations, read about the topic you choose, and free-write about the topic. Your prewriting has helped you gather the information needed for an essay, now you need to organize the information. This would bring us to Outlining. There are three common methods used to organize the information that you have gathered, they are chronological order, order of importance, and spatial order. Once you have completed your outline, you will be ready to move onto Drafting your paper. Doing this will entail writing an introduction, writing the body of your paper and then writing a conclusion to your essay. Once you have completed your draft, then the time comes for Revising and Editing what you have written. In this stage of writing you may be adding or eliminating information, you need to make the final check on your grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure. You may choose to have a friend read your paper and get their opinion on it. Writing can be easy to do, if you follow the steps listed above.

Welcome to WritePoint, the automated review system that recognizes errors most commonly made by university students in academic essays. The system embeds comments into your paper and suggests possible changes in grammar and style. Please evaluate each comment carefully to ensure that the suggested change is appropriate for your paper, but remember that your instructor's preferences for style and format prevail. You will also need to review your own citations and references since WritePoint capability in this area is limited. Thank you for using WritePoint.
