Wrongful convictions occur due to human errors and general injustice in the jury. As such, perjury is the main cause of miscarriage of justice. On the other hand, it would be impossible for it to occur as per my knowledge because of the professionalism in jury. The suspects in most cases have committed the crime in which even if the charges were lessened, it would still be close to the apparent sentences.
However, having read this chapter, I realized that wrongful convictions do not occur at will. There are factors that lead to the error of impunity and some times, travesty. According to DPIC (2017), many factors contribute to conviction of persons who have not committed the crime. Identified prevalent causes of the convictions are false accusations and official misconduct. Identification of wrong witnesses, false confessions and forensic evidences that do not match the case are other contributing factors.

Giving the defendant ample time with the lawyers to check on the case critically and prepare defense is vital. Defense attorneys should request for the evidences presented early enough from the prosecutors who should not fail to disclose. Nonetheless, witnesses should be identified at the beginning of the case rather than making appearance in court. This can be achieved through building of photo array according to the description given by the police in charge of the case. More so, a threshold of evidence should be established before lining up of the witnesses. Another recommendation is to adapt videotaping practice during interrogations to prevent the witnesses from fabricating statements during trials. Forensic officials should be trained thoroughly and forensic testing done in the early stages of the case before confirmation from what is presented by the police.
