America’s neutrality neutralized When the Great War had ignited, it came to a point where many nations either agreed or disagreed with one another. Whichever was the side they chose, there was one thing they would all agree on; that they were about to go through a series of bloody conflicts. However not all countries saw this as an opportunity to fight. The United States was a big example since their President had declared the nation neutral in this war. They did end up joining, but before its entry into WW1, the United States did not remain truly neutral because they favored a side in the war, became a financial aid to war-inflicted nations, and the made the nation want to get involved. First of all, when one is truly neutral, they absolutely have no involvement in something. This however was not the case for the U.S. According Doc. 2, they decided to become partisans by practically supporting a strategy used by the Allied countries. They chose to send illegal contraband and other military aid to Britain, while not even giving anything to the Central Powers. However not just any countries, but in Doc. 4, it states that America gave loans the countries that were at war during the time. While financially aiding a neutral nation is rather harmless, it is the complete opposite when the countries being aided are belligerent. As the document goes on to state that “...loans by American bankers to any foreign nation which is at war are inconsistent with the true spirit of neutrality.” This makes sense because just like the situation with Britain, providing loans for any country at war can also make one side advantageous to the other.
