The Yakama tribe, as their name implies, is located in the Yakama area near the Columbia river. They are surrounded by rivers, lakes, forests, and prairies. There are warm summers and cold snowy winters.

For social organizations, in the Yakama tribes, there were mostly nuclear families. The women gathered the plants and herbs, and also did the childcare and cooking. The man were fishermen and hunters. Both genders took part in storytelling, artwork and music, and traditional medicine.
