The Yellow Wallpaper, by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, and Hills Like White Elephants, by Ernest Hemingway, are two short stories with very different storylines. However, despite their differences, both contain a common factor: they both strongly show a correlation between one’s gender and level of power. Throughout these stories, we get a look at two relationships each involving a very powerful male character. Various scenarios that occur provide exemplification to the idea that one’s gender determines the level of power that they have in their relationships.
