The Yuma Territorial Prison (YTP) is located in Yuma, Arizona. The YTP was along the east of the Colorado River just to the south of the Gila River. On July 1, 1875 YTP was established. Also on that day seven prisoners entered and tried to escape. They were locked in cells that they built for themselves. Also, inmates as they were completing their judgement they were building their cells. Since that day YTP always had prisoners until the day it was permanently closed. YTP only operated for 33 years. In, 1909 due to overpopulation all prisoners were moved to a new prison Arizona State Prison Complex in Florence Arizona. In 1961 it became the 3rd state park. All inmates had different moods. Some of the prisoners learned how to read, speak, write, and also how to play some instruments while they were completing their judgement in jail. But not all inmates thought that it was a good place to stay for almost the rest of their lives. The YTP had his first escape attempts on July 1, 1875. Those prisoners that tried to escape on July 1, 1875 had a punishment. All inmates preferred to stay before suffering all those punishments. Some of the inmates were killed or tortured by the guards when they were trying to escape but, as I said it was worse when inmates got caught. If I would have been a prisoner I would had prefered to kill myself instead of having to suffer all the punishments. YTP had around 138 attempts of escape.
