In my primary application, I accidentally neglected to mention my on-going work over the last year as a child care assistant at the local YMCA near my university. I bring this experience to your attention because I sought this opportunity out to gain a better understanding of how children behave and think and offer my assistance to children with special needs. My responsibilities are to supervise after school activities, promote the YMCA core values, and encourage teamwork and creativity; yet what I am expected to do always extends past what I actually do at the YMCA. In addition to being a supervisor for the children, I am also a positive role model and mentor to the children. The children are often amazed that I am a dedicated musician, tutor, and undergraduate scientist outside of the program. My goal is to become a pediatric neurosurgeon with the opportunity to do research. I am a trombonist; one of the few women who dare learn this instrument. Over the last 13 years I have performed with several musical ensembles all along the east coast. As a musician, teamwork is essential for creating harmony between the working parts of a musical composition. My skills learned as a musician carry over easily to the field of medicine and are what I offer to your medical school.

Lastly, I wanted to take the time to explain the C+ I received in Calculus II during my junior year. The semester was going very well, but during the last three weeks of the semester several tragic personal events took place, which took away from my finals studies. I did well in all my other classes that semester, but was unable to do the same for my calculus final. I mention this to highlight that this grade was due to a lack of focus and commitment, but simply as series of attention diverting misfortunate
