Oftentimes when two people with drastically different lifestyles are thrust into a friendship, they realize more about themselves than they had previously. Seeing someone with qualities and a life unlike their own forces one to not only respect the other person, but to appreciate who they are despite their differences.

Friends in college for example, demonstrate how students are exposed to different kinds of people from different cultures. These people are the people who we can call our “best friends” one day despite their disparities. From my own experience, I’ve made good friends who seem like they have a completely different personality than me. Most people believe in the phrase “opposites attract.” My best friend from my hometown Virginia is a prime example of someone who resembles this phrase. To simply put it, I describe myself as an outgoing person who isn’t afraid to meet and interact with new people. My best friend on the other hand, is more reserved and shy around unfamiliar faces. Although our differences sometimes make it difficult to get along, we do our best to accept one another.

College is a place to meet new people. You’re practically on your to make new friends. For some it may be easy and for the others it may be tough. Putting aside how difficult it may be, there will always be someone out there with open arms. The more different someone is, the more you can get to know the other person and understand your differences. For example, in college there are students who are more of a partier versus students that are more school-oriented. Just because they don’t share the same interests doesn’t mean they can’t be good friends. If anything, the fact that they share differences can help them learn something more about each other. You should not have to change your lifestyle to fit in, but keep
