When entering the art exhibition, the path is directed into a dark viewing room where a film is playing. This film is called ‘Cut Piece’ (1965), which is a significant visual metaphor piece created by Yoko Ono. With the art piece representing a person’s gender, it shows how Ono has developed an understanding of feminism and sexual violence in the world today (Kate, 2012). Ono has attempted to convey the overall mood and topic of the art piece, rather than just making it appear that people are just cutting her clothes away. In this art piece, Ono was seated on a stage wearing what appears to be a plain black dress, with a pair of scissors lying in front of her. Throughout the entire art piece, Ono sat perfectly still and appeared unbothered by her viewers cutting her dress. But, towards the end of the piece, she began to move, more and more, to cover parts of her body she did not want exposed to the public. As Ono does not talk or move much throughout the art piece, this causes her to become an object rather than a human subject with a say about what is being done to her (Kate, 2012). Even through Ono doesn’t say anything throughout the piece, it is evident that she became uncomfortable towards the end of the piece, with how sexually aggressive her viewers were becoming with her clothing and body (Kate, 2012). It was seen that Ono was trying to reclaim her body by exposing it to others, but it was shown how willingly others are to degrade it (Kate, 2012). Throughout this piece, Ono is also commenting on a women’s social place and power in the world (Kate, 2012). This was shown by her sitting on the ground for the whole piece of work, and not being active. By allowing her viewers to act upon her as if she were an object, not a human being, this shows how a woman’s social place and power in the world is lower than a man’s (Kate,
