Young Men In Jon Krakauer's Into The Wild

Young men these days are often considered irresponsible, and are looking for trouble at least majority of them are. Young men have this desire in them to do something so dangerous in their lives because they feel it will distract them from the reality of their own lives. The book Into the Wild was about a young man who felt like he owed it to himself to find who he really is by leaving his old life behind and start a new one in Alaska.

One reason that I can think of to explain why young men like to seek for a dangerous adventure to do is because they are trying to run away from their personal problems and don't know how to deal with them or simply because they don't want to confront them. I got this idea from chapter 12, which

They like to be very independent and do things their own way, but sometimes they can't always be like that because of what society, friends, or even their parents might stop them from doing what they want because they have to live up to certain expectations. But not Chris McCandless and Everett Ruess. Yes their families and friends had other expectations for them but they both had a very unique mindset which made them do a very crazy thing like go to Alaska to live there in the wild. In chapter 9, the quote, "Kind of different. But him and McCandless, at least they tried to follow their dream. That’s what was great about them. They tried. Not many do.”, helped me come to this conclusion because they weren't afraid to do a crazy thing like go to the wild. Most young people go to drugs or alcohol to fulfill their needs, but not McCandless and Ruess. Their needs were filled by being with nature. Even though people might read their stories and think they are crazy, but at least they had the guts to not listen to everyone else and do what THEY wanted to do. Ruess and McCandless felt like they owed it to themselves to live up to their own expectations, even if that meant leaving their old lives behind and start new. Even though they both died tragically, it was probably their destinies to go into the wild and die
