In the story Your Move by Eve Bunting, the protagonist James, is indeed a protective and optimistic character, James is optimistic because he always has a way to keep from being frantic, he always finds a way to think about the optimistic side of the situation. James is protective because he will do anything in his power to keep him and his family safe when there in danger.

One reason James is protective is when he was finishing spray painting the K-Bones logo on the wall, shortly after the Snakes came Bones shouts “Run! Go! They´ve got a gun!”. When the Snakes shot the first bullet everyone was terrified that they might get hit, when James and his brother Isaac were running home, away from the trouble James was being very protective, he was open about what was happening in his surroundings, he was protecting Isaac by running straight home he was dragging Isaac because he was too slow and he didn't want to take any chances of me to slow and Isaac getting shot. While James was doing so, he didn't notice that by dragging Isaac his knees were scraping across the pavement, as Isaac's knees were hurting more and more by the minute Isaac yells “Let go of me! Stop!” on the ground until they started bleeding and he started screaming. When James glances down to see why Isaac was screaming all he sees is Isaacs

But it's just that I'm pulling him too fast. The last scene that James is optimistic is at the end when Kris came to the house and asked if James wanted to join the K-Bones when James declined the offer and then Kris asked Isaac and at that moment James must have been hoping that Isaac would turn down the offer like he
