In the story, “Your Social Life: Are You a Fox or a Hedgehog,” the author Pamela Haag discusses the types of social lifestyles people have. Pamela Haag uses the ancient Greek poet Archilochus theory of the two social styles: the fox and the hedgehog. She uses point by point comparisons to explain the differences and similarities between the two social lives. A social lifestyle is a combination of a variety of things such as activities, people, and places. It is a way of how individuals interact with each other on daily basis, however, everybody is different. Pamela Haag describes the social lifestyles: the fox and the hedgehog. The fox social life is when they know a lot of things about a little. An example of a fox social life would be someone who enjoys the party lifestyle and is a social butterfly. The hedgehog social life is when they know on big thing. An example of hedgehog social life is hanging out with small group of friends and they prefer to keep themselves. I believe the author’s main thesis is that people do not just have the fox or the hedgehog social style, but that most have a little bit both social styles. In life people need to have a good balance of everything they do in life. Examples would include a healthy balance of junk food and vegetable or watching TV and reading a book. When it comes to the social styles, people exhibit both when it is necessary to use them. For instance someone who is networking with many individuals in business is using the fox social style while someone staying at home is using the hedgehog social style.
