Today a man by name Chris Coffman, photographer of the Appeal Democrat, came to share his experience he had in Nigeria. Chris and his father work together in the “Save Blood Africa Project”. This project originated in Nigeria. Before this project the people of Nigeria would have to find someone with the same blood, test it, and then find a way to receive the blood. Many people die in Nigeria from not getting blood in time, but the “Save Blood Africa Project” hopes to change that with blood banks. A blood bank is “an expensive refrigerator” which keeps the blood at the right temperature. The individuals involved in the project hope to stop the unfortunate deaths that occur each year in Nigeria because Nigeria does not have blood donations or “blood drives”. One reason is no one wants to get tested for STD's. Many HIV hospital patients need blood as well but not as much as in Child Birth. Its population is negatively affected by the loss of blood during child birth. Child birth counts for the most deaths from lack of blood in Nigeria. Deadly injury falls second. Anemic patients also suffer from the lack of clean blood. The hospital sanitation is also a factor. Many hospitals in Nigeria don’t control diseases in their rooms or anywhere else in the hospitals. Having someone like the doctor, nurse, or visitor become ill and catch a disease is not uncommon. What surprised me the most is that the hospitals are very welcoming to all patients,
