Youth Pettiness In today's society people are seen complaining about such simple things, when in reality there are much more serious problems in the world. People complain about not having anything good to watch on TV, and not being able to afford the new Iphone. But across the globe there are people starving, and there are people in true danger. In Bo Burnham's video Can't Handle This, he points out just how petty we can be. When people are called out for something that might be shameful it's hard to accept the truth. But it's much easier to accept it when you’re not the one being called out. Bo Burnham calls out Kanye West. He goes on to describe a long rant that Kanye had done. As most people know, Kanye is extremely rich. By complaining about people not buying his overpriced shirts he has proven pettiness at it’s peak. It seems ridiculous that someone who has so much money could be bitter about people not spending ninety dollars on a T-shirt. This is the point that Bo Burnham is making. By singing in an auto tuned voice it cushions the whole topic by making us laugh. Burnham also used pop culture to make us laugh. Kanye West is often the subject of young people's laughter. By introducing him in the beginning of the show it catches the audience's attention and gets them thinking that this show is going to be funny. Just to add a bit more humor Burnham picks a topic that many people can relate to, and laugh at because it's not too serious. By using something people can relate to he makes his point without making the audience feel to bad about their behavior. A factor that may be overlooked is his age. Burnham is a young comedian. Being a similar age as his target audience can make all the difference in the audience's reaction because he is easier for youth culture to relate
