The economy from around the prison was affected mostly, one of the negative effects the prison had on the town was the pumping of the raw sewage from the prison in the colorado river. The prison was less than a mile upstream from the town of yuma. There was outbreaks of typhus because of the unsanitary conditions. For example a very important part of the prison was the famous Library which was built inside the Yuma Territorial Prison. It was not a very fancy library, the prison could hardly afford books for the prisoners and for the people of Yuma to use. This library did not only help the prisoners but also other people who were not inmates as well. Although the prisoners did not seem to think the same way, and if they
