Z for Zachariah, the movie based on the book written by Robert C. O’Brian. In my opinion it’s nothing like the book in my opinion. Sure, there are some similarities between the two, but by a long shot, Z for Zachariah has huge differences from the book. For an example, there's the new character Caleb, which isn’t that big of a deal, but for a movie that is based on the last remaining people on earth, it's a pretty huge change that I don't think shouldn’t of happened. There's also Ann's age, how John feels about Ann, and the importance of Faro. It’s not all a bad thing. While Robert C. O'Brien's book has a lot of fans, the movie definitely deserves its spot in the post-apocalyptic genre.

This is the biggest change, by far. Despite playing a large role in the movie, Caleb, Chris Pine's character, doesn't exist in the book. The only three real characters are Ann, John and Faro, so everything that happens in the movie, the fights, the jealousy, none of it occurs in the book. In the book Ann is 16 years old. Ann's age in the film is not talked about but she's played by the Margot Robbie who is 25 years old, and is implied to be around 18 or 19 in the movie. That change didn’t really bug me considering that if she was 16 in the movie it would make it a lot more inappropriate than if she was 18 or 19.

There's no reason for the character to be a different race, it was simply a decision made by the filmmakers, in my opinion it's a good change because Chiwetel Ejiofor is great as Mr.Loomis and it's hard to imagine the role being played by any other actor. In the movie Mr.Loomis hyperventilates when he realizes that he's swimming in radiated water, and practically tries to kill Ann when she tries to help. It's understandable but in the book John is calm and let’s Ann help
