Fiction stories often have things that are “made up” and don’t exist. Ray Bradbury is the author of “Zero Hour” a fiction story about aliens invading life on Earth and causing destruction. In his story he expresses the different ways the characters react when the aliens or Martians are invading. H.G Wells is the author of The War of the Worlds another fiction story about Martians invading Earth. In Wells’ story the characters are frightened about what is going on around them. In both stories “Zero Hour” and The War of the Worlds they have characters that react the same during the invasion and events that cause destruction.
In both stories they have characters that react with panic during the invasion. In “Zero Hour” Mink’s mother starts to panic when she heard the explosion. She says, “Up this way! In the attic! That’s

In “Zero Hour” when the Martians invade Earth, “There were explosions in other yards on other streets” (Bradbury 257). The text is explaining how there are explosions causing destruction in the neighborhood. In “Zero Hour” their setting “takes place in a futuristic American neighborhood” (Bradbury 244). In The War of the Worlds the narrator describes, “It struck the tower of Shepperton Church, smashing it down as the impact of a battering ram might have done, swerved aside, blundered on and collapsed with tremendous force into the river out of my sight” (Wells 271). When the Martian was slain, it couldn’t keep its balance so it ended up knocking down the steeple of the church. In The War of the Worlds their setting took place in the past. The author wrote, “three or four soldiers stood on the lawn of the inn” (Wells 267). In this evidence it says there are soldiers standing on a lawn. This tells the reader that this must take place in the past because, today you don’t see soldiers standing on lawns or walking
