The Zika virus has been spreading rapidly, and has finally made its way to the United States. The purpose of the article is to demonstrate that the Senate is taking measures to give funding to the protection of the virus. The fight against the virus will also extend to Puerto Rico, because of our partnership with Planned Parenthood. This bill to fund the fight against Zika was supposed to be discussed Monday evening, but had to be delayed until Tuesday. Because of this delay, it could affect the veto the president is about to pass relating to suing Saudi Arabian families that took part in the September 11, 2001 attacks on the Twin Towers. This would affect the president because the Senate will be in Washington an extra day and have the power to override the president’s veto. The two parties are currently debating the way that the government would fund the Zika virus. The republicans want there to be funding cuts elsewhere and the democrats believe that would be a disaster if they were to cut funds elsewhere.

For example, the article starts that if the President were to veto the bill regarding suing Saudi Arabian families, the Senate would be able to veto that bill through their power of checks and balances. Checks and balances ensures that one individual or group do not have complete control of the government and is checked by each of the other branches of government. Separation of powers is also demonstrated because the Senate has the specific power in deciding whether or not they will give funding for the protection of the Zika virus.
