“Enjoy the little things” -Zombieland. Being stuck in the past can take away from the present; constantly comparing yourself to the place where they can make them lose sight of where the future lives and how to get there. Missing out on the present by comparing the past will take away from the little everyday things that make us happier people. In the movie “Zombieland” the character Tallahassee is in a post apocalyptic world and the only things he wants is to find a simple twinkie it reminds him of a happier time, is that living in the past because he is avoiding the peril he is currently encountering? I don’t believe he is running away from the present he is simply acknowledging the sweetness of the simplicity of how life was before it became this life filled with the living dead.

Later in the same movie he recalls the darkness of his past as well when he lost his son to the raging war for humanity against the living dead. For the first time you see this strong character crack and it explains a lot about his behavior throughout the move, why he hates zombies so much and how he is protective over the rest of the group even though he tries to keep his emotions away from the equation by not going by actual names. If Tallahassee stayed in the moment of his son’s passing then he wouldn’t have gotten to a happier place where he realized he could care for someone again even though inside he was terrified. He conquered his fear and he found a way to still enjoy the little things along the way, and yes he did get his twinkie by the end of the movie. Without moving forward he would have never known what he was capable of, he wouldn’t know he was capable of caring for anyone else like his child.
