The reason of why a business would use a specification is because Duffryn High School would use a personal specification because it helps Duffryn High School to identify and understand the candidate’s essential and desirable qualities. There are a variety of different ways of completing a personal specification; one of the most commonly used is the seven-point plan, designed by Alec Rodger in 1952. Rodger’s seven point plan is:
Physical make up-what is required in terms of health, strength and energy? Does the job require physical strength? Is it tiring, heavy manual work? Does the job require contact with the general public?
Attainments-what level of education and qualification is required to undertake the job? What occupational training and occupation experience is the potential candidate required to have?
General intelligence-what does the job involve in terms of quick thinking and mental effort.
Special aptitudes-what kinds of skills will the potential application need in order to do the job? Will the applicant need mechanical skills, be able to work with numbers or have excellent oral skills?
Interests-what personal interests could be relevant to the job? Would experience of working with other people, working outdoors, for example be helpful? Disposition- what kind of personality would
