Football is like life - it requires perseverance, self-denial, hard work, sacrifice, dedication, and respect for authority. - Vince Lombardi. Football players can sustain injuries during play that some people are deeming “too dangerous” from fatal and life long consequences. Due to these injuries sustained by football players, there is a rising debate whether football is too dangerous to continue playing. This includes all ages, from “pee wee” football, to major league NFL football. Brain injuries can also take time to come into effect and can start showing years after playing has stopped. There are things like depression that affects many ex-football players that cause real struggles in their day to day life. Catastrophic brain injury can also occur at any time during and or after play from head to head collisions, but football isn't the only sport in which players can get hurt. Many people can get hurt in other sports such as, basketball, volleyball, softball or baseball, and soccer. All of these sports can cause significant injury, so it's no different to the injuries football players can get because they can happen in any other number sports. People are only worried about the injuries sustained by football players because it is the “American sport” and is televised and talked about year round’. If other sports were just as popular there would be just as much concern for injury.
Football should not be deemed “too dangerous to play”. Players of the game should educate themselves and know what they are doing and the risks of injury they could have before stepping onto the field. Coaches or parents should talk to the players and let them know the safest way they can play for themselves and others. Would you be safe on the football
