The eighteenth amendment of the American Constitution established a ban of alcoholic beverages which refers to production, transportation, and sale. The separate Volstead Act set down methods, explained which how to enforce the law and which “intoxicating liquors” were prohibited and which were allowed for medical or religious purposes. The deadline for the set a date for which it had to follow. The ratification of the amendment was completed on January 16th, 1919, and would finally take effect on January 17th, 1920.
