The 1920s was a time of great change. America, fresh out of World War I and on edge with the Red Scare, needed a joyful distraction. With new inventions and new athletes blooming, the 1920s was very promising. Racial injustice in the early 1900s and late 1800s sparked an African American movement in the 1920s. The 1920’s was the best of times because women showed that they could be just as good as men, African Americans became successful through Jazz and the Harlem Renaissance, and new and affordable inventions created free time and made the lives of Americans easier.

Henry Ford used the assembly line to mass produce his Model T car. Ford’s mass production made cars more affordable and his payment plan made it easier for people to purchase his cars. Now almost everyone had a car and the time to travel from place to place was cut in half. New inventions like the dishwasher and the vacuum cleaner made housework faster, creating free time for Americans because they did not have to take as much time traveling and cleaning as they used to. Since Americans were getting bored, they started using their free time to watch silent movies and listen to the new invention called the radio. This era made actors, athletes, and singers very famous. Baseball and football emerged as the new most popular sports because now people can not only make it to the games, they can listen to them on their new, affordable radio. The new radio made it possible to broadcast games, music, and news all across the country faster than ever. The 1920s was a time of new inventions and new, creative industries.
