Amendment XXVI in the Constitution states: "the right of citizens of the United States, who are eighteen years of age or older, to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of age." The reason this amendment is so meaningful to me is because this is the most recent amendment regarding voting, and it is coupled along with allowing women and people of color to vote. The United States is a country which operates on popular sovereignty - and that requires that all the people have representation and an ability to practice democracy within the nation they call home. As they reach the teenage years, they are able to become more educated and want to see a difference in leadership or law. Young adults have a voice - a loud one, as demonstrated during the March 17-minute Walk Out and the March For Our Lives in 2018. These are not the only examples of civil protest teenagers have participated in, but some of the most recent and notable. That is why this amendment is important - because not only are they able to exercise their right to peaceful protest and free speech, but they can practice change within their own government by being able to vote once they are 18 in any elections around the United States they are eligible
