When I was a child, my dad was always gone away on deployments. He went on over twelve deployments that ranged from ten to eighteen months at a time. I remember always feeling angry with him whenever he would leave for war but that was because I never really understood what he was fighting for. I did not know what it was to be an American. When nine-eleven occurred, I was in preschool with no idea what was going on at the time. I remember my mom physically stepping into my classroom with my older sister and taking me out, even when nobody was allowed to leave.
