In A Long Way Gone attacking civilians, killing prisoners and looting towns are defined as war crimes. One of the many war crimes committed in A Long Way Gone is that they attacked civilian villages to capture recruits and whatever else they could find. Ishmael states “ we also attacked civilian villages to capture recruits and whatever else we could find”. Another war crime that was committed was the killing of prisoners. In page 124 “we proceeded to practice killing the prisoners the way the lieutenant had done it”. Additionally they looted rebels for ammo and food.
