The very real problem the narrator presents in Swift’s A Modest Proposal, is the amount of women raising children in poverty within the country of Ireland. These women are not exactly considered to be the best mothers they could be. The narrator suggests that many of the children are unplanned for, their mothers had them out of marriage, and therefore are left to provide for the children themselves. The narrator feels this causes the mothers to have to beg for a substance or perform unethical acts, which in return leads to them having more children the mothers are unable to take care of. The narrators purposes that the society should turn the children into a food source, not just for other people but for animals to eat as well. He states this
