Many times throughout Lorraine Hansberry’s A Raisin In The Sun, Aristotle’s six elements are present, but on P.338-341, both language and spectacle combined, make the characters and their ideas clearer to us and other characters in the play. Bobo comes to the Younger’s apartment to tell Walter the bad news about what happened to the money. The money Walter had invested had been stolen by Willy, who was supposed to take the money to the bank. Both language and spectacle are very present in this scene through many examples. Language was prominent in the talk between Walter and Bobo and then the talk with Walter and Mama, and spectacle was present between Walter and Bobo again and Walter and Mama. Walter is very upbeat because from what he knows, the money made it safely to Willy, but then Bobo tells him something went wrong with the money, and Walter begins to go crazy. “What about the money you put in?”(339) “THEN TELL ME, GOD DAMNIT...WHAT’S THE MATTER WITH YOU?” Both of these phrases were said with obvious agitation and then Walter says “Man what are you talking about?”(339) and begins to lose hope all while Bobo sounds depressed and unmotivated while recounting what happened at the train stations. Walter at this point has lost all hope, and realizes what has happened and says “That money is made out of my father’s flesh…”. The language used in this scene is made more powerful by what has happened in it, as Walter’s words have gained new life, as they now are said in a desperate and angry tone.This final phrase along with the other phrases helps make Walter’s idea clearer because he is so distraught over the loss of the money that he begins to yell and scream.
