Modern Family, an ABC’s television series "rst aired in September 2009. This comedy series displays three families, who are very close with one another. Modern Family deals with the traditional family as portrayed by the Dunphys. It also introduces the homosexual family by the Princhett-Tuckers and an interracial marriage in the Pritchetts, who also happen to be an older and younger couple. Modern Family displays traditional gender roles and stereotypes of women verse men.The Dunphys family consist of 5 family members. Phil and Claire Dunphy and their three children Alex, Luke, and Haley. Phil is the main source of income in the family, while Claire is a stay-at-home mother. The Prichett-Tuckers have stereotypical masculine and feminine traits because they are a gay couple. Cameron "ts the feminine roles better because he is more outgoing, and cares deeply about his clothing and appearance. But he can also be considered a handy man and better at sports than Mitchell is. Mitchell looks and "ts the characteristics of a breadwinner in the family and appears more masculine. He also has a very distinguished goal of being the masculine "gure in his daughter’s life. He tries to teach her sports, even though he isn’tvery athletic.The Prichett family consists of Jay and Gloria Prichett and their son Manny Delgado-Princhett. The Princhett family is very di3erent from the others because it portrays an interracial marriage and each member has hada previous marriage. Much like the Duphys, the main gender role imposed is that men are more powerful and that women are essentially slaves. Jay is the family’s income provider, while Gloria is the stay-at-home mom who cooks, cleans and serves the family.
