Capital punishment, also known as the death penalty, is a very controversial form of punishment that has been practiced in the United States for a very long time. The death penalty can be given for treason, espionage, murder, large-scale drug trafficking, or attempting to kill court officers. The problem is that this form of punishment is too harsh and that it should be abolished completely in the United States. Over time, nineteen individual states in the United States have eliminated the death penalty. These states are Alaska, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. Capital punishment has surpassed its time and should be abolished all over the country rather than in just some states so that our government and societies’ relationship can better themselves. Abolishment has more benefits than keeping capital punishment would have. If we get rid of the death penalty innocent lives will be saved and our morals as a country will be set straight. Brutally killing those who have committed heinous crimes will send the message that it is ok to kill. We always hear so much talk of peace but how can we achieve that with violence everywhere that we turn. Our justice system isn’t faultless, and mistakes in convictions happen, and, there are no ways to correct a wring. We have started to see change within in the United States we just need to keep on pushing forward until complete abolishment of the death penalty is
