Abortion Abortion kills the lives of innocent unborn human beings and millions of those procedures are performed every year. Statistics show that about 1 million abortions occur every year. That is more lives lost than one can imagine. Women take away the lives of innocents not realizing that a fetus is a human being and deserves rights like every other. Murder is defined as the crime of deliberately killing a person, according to the Merriam Webster dictionary. It is an unlawful and unkind action that people do for many reasons. Abortion works as the same way. It is defined as the “termination of pregnancy and expulsion and death of the fetus generally before it is viable”. In the 1960s, the women’s rights movement argued that having access to abortion was crucial to a women’s control over her body. They stated that the nation’s laws were loosening because of the opinions against abortion. A woman might not want to care for the child and the cost of raising a child is very expensive. Children have to go through school, buy clothes, eat food and babies need diapers, bottles and a bed to sleep in. The cost can be more than parents would anticipate. People say that it is unconstitutional for the government to interfere with a woman’s personal life and health. Interfering would violate a woman’s right to privacy leading to bigger issues. Women may also get an abortion not just for personal issues but for the child itself. Rape is a cause of why women feel the need to abort. They feel it would not be fair to the child if they did not know who their father was and that they were a child of rape. Birth defects are also another reason why women would abort. It can lead to major or minor disabilities and parents do not want to put their child through that growing up. Deadly health risks can also come into play when a mother gets pregnant. Creating parental laws may be a solution to abortion that will eliminate the number of abortions across the United States. Minors are not mature enough to make their own decisions in life. With the help of their parents, they will lead down the road of support and hopefully happiness rather than depression and anxiety of what to do next. Some may feel the need to keep an abortion or pregnancy hidden from their parents because of personal and even abusive reasons. However, most parents are willing to help their child and they may be more understanding than teenagers think. It also helps avoid complications that could evolve from abortion and limit health risks. If abortion is done without parental consent, then parents will not know to look out for any health issues that can be serious to a teenager’s health. Teens may also be pressured into having an abortion because of their partner and society. Their partner will tend to favor an abortion if they are not ready to be a parent and are not ready to take on the responsibility. They will most likely force an abortion upon a teen regardless of her desires. Parents always know what’s best for their child and they will be honest with them. Teenagers are not allowed to get body piercings, tattoos or go in a tanning salon until they are 18. Otherwise, they need parental consent.
