The patient was NPO following her diagnosis of Acute pancreatitis. patient last bowel movement was on 11/10/16, after she arrived on the emergency department she was put in NPO status because of the suspected Pancreatitis. She was cleared for the clear liquid diet on 11/12/16, which was advanced to full liquid and then to low fiber on 11/13/16. The patient was getting corticosteroids, so her glucose level is high it should resolve once the medication is discontinued. We are also closely monitoring her fluid and electrolyte levels especially Ca++, K+ and P--. The side effects of corticosteroids are hyperglycemia, may cause hypokalemia and hypocalcemia (Vallerand, Deglin, & Sanoski, 2015). Her renal function seems to be within the normal limits.
