Hanna is a client that has come to the facility for treatment. Hanna’s presenting problem is she is suffering from Acute Stress Disorder, and engaging in substance usage. Hanna feels very anxious and unable to concentrate, because her oldest son is in the military on deployment. She fears he will not return home safely, after his deployment. Hanna’s stress level has increased since her son has left. Hanna also has been facing some struggles at her job as well. Her boss gave her two extra shifts a week, during the busiest times of the day. She has also stated she did not want to refuse the extra shifts, because she is very close to getting promoted. She has started to rely on wine to help her fall asleep. Hanna has made it a point to drink every time, just so she can fall asleep. Since Hanna has been relying on wine, she also reported that over the past week her stomach has been hurting. Hanna does not know what to do in her situation, but feels very stressed out. All of these problems have kept Hanna from focusing on treatment. It is hard for Hanna to focus on treatment, because she is constantly worrying about her family. She finds it hard to help better herself, when she is more worried about her children. She cannot seem to get her mind off the struggles she is facing. Hanna needs to be able to find strategies that will help her cope with the stress she is under.
There are a number of barriers that should be prevented or minimized when it comes to treating Hanna. For instance, Hanna cannot let her job interfere with treatment. Hanna is relying on alcohol to help her sleep at night, which is a barrier. Therefore, Hanna needs to stop relying on alcohol. Alcohol will only make matters worse, that is why it is important for Hanna to cut it out of her diet
