This movie focused on the urban African-American dance theater called Alvin Ailey that brought about a whole new take on dance. The movie was just a basic documentary on how the dance theater came to be. It covers a little about about who Alvin Ailey was and his vision for his dance company. Then, it went over the choreographers who seemed like the second most important people in the company besides the dancers themselves.
The choreographers were a group of three something that is rare because in most places when there is a choreographer working on how the scene looks and how the moves look there is normally only one choreographer. Having three at once working on such an amazing work of art is what makes the company so unique.
The movie talked about the choreographers as being the past, the present, and the future. Together they are able to put together this unique story that has each of their creative outlook. The dancers were also talked about in the documentary. The Movie talked about how when the company was just kicking off there a small group of dancers and now there are so many new dancers that have been brought in who are amazing and show a passion for what they want to do.

This dancer was amazing and she had a passion for what she did because she looked up to one of the choreographers who had turned out to be an amazing dancer in her youth. It talked a little bit about how much dancing, especially at that company, was important to dancers like her. They showed a scene where she went in to see a doctor about her toe where he had stubbed her toe so badly during practice she had gotten a slight fracture.
