The author tells the stories of three California families beginning with first generation immigrant ancestors from Japan, Mexico, and Ireland. We learn how they navigate historical events and set-backs as they work to establish themselves in a new country and build a new life for themselves and their descendants. We follow the families through time and across great distances as they strive to fulfill their dreams and the dreams of their children.
