Identity can be dangerous, harsh, and terrible for some people. In Amy Tan’s “Fish Cheeks”, she did not know what to do with her culture, and she needed to decide between her Chinese culture and her American culture. She wanted to be more like her friends who were American, but her family was Chinese. Also, the nonfiction piece of “More Facebook Friends, Fewer Real Ones” discussed how friends can be harsh on one and turn one against one’s life’s goals.
