Poverty is an ever growing issue in the United States that is caused by a number of economic and political factors. The lack of education and lack of high paying jobs are two main causes of poverty, which can result in higher crime rates, and homelessness in the U.S. To solve these issues, we must first analyze the ways in which each of these causes are related to poverty as a whole. Then we can assess the ways that poverty negatively impacts the U.S., giving us a better insight into possible methods of reducing poverty. While the U.S. continues to hold itself in high esteem, our education system lags behind many other countries. According to the Program for International Student Assessment, “The U.S. percentage was lower than 27 education systems…” (PISA). According to Crane M, “homelessness generally is associated with shortages of low-cost rented housing, unemployment, and poverty…” (Crane).Homelessness is the most extreme effect of poverty, and is the most crucial to be avoided, as it leads to an unproductive society. A booming economy requires a steady workforce, as well as a steady stream of consumers to buy the goods being produced. Homelessness negatively effects both of these requirements, because homeless citizens are not working, and do not have the money to consume any goods being produced. The only way to stop homelessness is to again look at poverty and its causes. The lack of jobs is the most crucial factor to consider, as it directly affects the increase of homelessness. As jobs are lost, relocated, or scaled back in these areas, many citizens are left with no place to work, and thus no way of making money. This lack of money is the final contributor to homelessness, because without money there is no way to afford food, much less a home to live
