The Puritans were a group of people that believed everyone should live their life by the bible. They were against anyone who disobeyed the bible’s rules, and were violent against those people. The Puritans believed that hell was the home for anyone that disobeyed god and his rules,or for loving anything more than he ( God).
In Anne Bradstreet poem, there was a puritan woman that lived in 1666.The woman and her husband were sleep and their home caught on fire. Though she got out the burning home safely, sadly her husband did not,and she sat watching all their possessions burn to ash.The woman began to blame herself, and began wondering was this a punishment from God,for loving her husband too much,or was it because of her love for material things. This shows that as a puritan the woman blamed herself for all these things happening to her,and that the things happening to her were god's punishment because she loved others above him.
