When we think of Great Britain and Japan today, we think of two nations which are highly industrialized with the latest tech and highly influential to the rest of the world. But, we don't always think about how they got to this point. For people, especially millennials, living in the 21st century, we tend to forget that our world was not always as advanced as it is today and that at one point or another, countries had to industrialize in order to thrive. And in countries such as Great Britain and Japan, geography played a major role in the development of the country as a whole.

When it comes to geography, both Japan and Great Britain were in similar situations. Both were Island nations with limited resources meaning they had limited access to raw materials needed to industrialize (Doc. 6 & 4). They instead had to import raw materials by ship. Because both were island nations, they had many coastal ports as well as access to other nations by ship. Also due to the fact that both were island nations, both countries were easily protected.
