Minor Characters Who Made the Story It was just a normal April Morning and then, all the sudden, there was the shot heard around the world and the war began. April Morning is a book written by Howard Fast in 1961 about his fictional view on the first day of the Revolutionary War. He introduces many main characters as well as a few minor who were never actually present on this faithful day. This story takes place in Lexington Massachusetts on April 19, 1775 and starts on the Coopers homestead. Granny is a loving and compassionate person, Levi is a naughty but loving brother, and Ruth is a beautiful girl who knows what she wants. “Since then, she had filled out very nicely; the elbows shaded down, and the bones were not noticeable. Her red hair, instead of flying wild like a mop upended, was gathered on her neck and highly admired by all sorts of people, and there were times when I found myself looking at her and thinking that she was beautiful.” (Fast 36). Boys like Adam found Ruth to be very beautiful because luckily for Ruth puberty hit her like a truck. She tamed herself and become a presentable young woman because that’s what was expected of her. Although she still ran with the boys she was growing up and needed to calm herself because one day she would be the women of the house. Not only was she beautiful she also knew what she wanted with the rest of her life. “You don’t think I want to be married at the age of fifteen?” (Fast 196). She knew from a young age that Adam was the one she wanted to marry. She set her mind to something and went for it because she was a strong minded young woman. She was a go-getter who fought to get what she wanted. More girls should strive to be like Ruth
