“The Crucible” takes place in Salem, Massachusetts during the infamous Salem Witch Trials. Members of the town, more specifically the women, were accused of witchcraft left and right. Continuing with the theme of how women were treated I will be writing this response while focusing on a specific archetype that is present throughout the play.
The specific archetype that can be found in many different pieces of literature is the femme fatale, which is defined as, “an attractive and seductive woman, especially one who will ultimately bring disaster to a man who becomes involved with her.” Women have been painted as evil dating all the way back the story of Adam and Eve, Eve being one of the original femme fatales.
